This page is for people who already have Picdex and hit a problem. Find your symptom below.
In the order worth trying:
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Picdex.%LOCALAPPDATA%\Picdex\logs: paste that path into the Explorer
address bar and attach the newest file.Picdex gets cover art and metadata from AniList. If AniList is unreachable — it is down, or your connection or firewall is blocking it — covers stop arriving.
Nothing is lost. The entries are still in your library with the text Picdex read and a thumbnail of your own screenshot in place of the cover, and they fill in by themselves next time the lookup succeeds.
Picdex reads the text in a screenshot and makes its best guess. It is wrong some of the time — on my reference set it places about 63% of works correctly — and the app is built on the assumption that you will correct it.
Open the entry and choose the correct title. The correction is permanent: the same screenshot will not be re-guessed, and Picdex will not undo your choice.
If it is wrong often, please send me examples. One screenshot plus the title it should have found tells me more than any description of the problem. That is how recognition gets better.
Your screenshots stay exactly where they were; Picdex never moves or renames them. Everything Picdex itself creates lives in one folder:
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Picdex
If your library looks empty after moving machines or reinstalling, the index did not come with you — the folder above is what carries it.
Yes. It is tied to your Steam account, not to a machine. Install it on every computer you own. There is no activation and no licence key.
Picdex is a Windows 10 64-bit (or newer) application. There is no macOS version and none is planned. [[A Linux version is in progress / There is no Linux version.]]
Offline: yes, apart from cover art and metadata, which come from AniList. Recognition itself runs entirely on your machine — the model ships inside the app, and no screenshot ever leaves your computer.
If your problem is on this list you do not need to write to me — it is already known and being worked on.
Refunds are handled by Steam, not by me. Steam issues a refund for any reason if you request it within 14 days of purchase and have used the product for less than 2 hours.
You do not need to ask me first, and I cannot process it for you — I have no access to your purchase. Request it from your Steam account. If Picdex did not do what this site says it does, that is a perfectly good reason to use it.
Steam Community Discussions is the best place: other buyers see the answer, so the same question gets solved once. Use the Discussions tab on the Picdex store page.
Please include, in the first message:
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Picdex\logs, if the app
failed rather than misbehaved. That usually turns three rounds of questions into one reply.
